What You Can Do to Get Your House Ready to Sell

When preparing your home for market, there are a few essential things that I always recommend for sellers to consider before putting their house on the market.

  • Be sure the exterior of your house looks picture-perfect. Lawn mowed, shrubs trimmed, shutters cleaned/painted, flowers in pots by stoop, windows washed.
  • Fresh paint is a biggie. Potential buyers are attracted to newly, neutral painted walls with no scuff markets, dents, or dirt.
  • If carpeting is older then most likely needs replacing. If newer, be sure it is clean with no stains. If wood or vinyl be sure the floors are clean and shiny.
  • To stage or not to stage – whether you use a stager or stage the house yourself definitely stage! Be sure you declutter and remove personal items and any furniture or other items that could distract your buyers from “seeing” the house.
  • Make sure to repair broken items – for example, dripping faucets or loose cabinet hinges, any item that makes the house look less maintained.

Some Highlights:

  • Believe it or not, there are lots of things you can do to prep your house for a sale without even going to the store.
  • Your real estate plans don’t have to be completely on hold even while we’ve hit the pause button on other parts of daily life.
  • Tackling small projects from cleaning the corners you may normally skip to tidying up your yard are easy and necessary wins if you’re thinking of listing your house and making a move.
